Ellis in the Mafia Staff Car

Operators attending the event where: John (MM0GOF) in Control at the Dunragit Nursery venue, Ellis (GM0HPK) in the Mafia staff car, at checkpoint 1, Jim (2M0JWL) at checkpoint 2, Wul (2M0WUL) with Mrs WUL at checkpoint C and myself Davy (MM0KBT) and Mrs KBT at checkpoint 3.

State of the art timing at all SERC events

The weather was very misty to start with, but the April sun burned the mist away from the more inland checkpoints, but left checkpoint C and 3 covered in a blanket for most of the day until just before the riders arrived at CP3 when they could be spotted appearing out of the mist. The event was due to start at 0900 hrs, but the first rider was dispatched at around 0920 with accurate timing supplied by the trusty kitchen wall clock and calendar! Not the 100th of a second timing that we see used on the car rallies we attend!

Out of the mist There were five different lengths of rides on mixed surfaces including, tarmac, gravel track and sandy beach: 16km, 24km, 32km, 48km, and 64km. Only 4 riders decided to tackle the 64km, the only ones to come out as far as us at checkpoint 3 on the beach at Sandhead. A long wait from 0920 till 1322hrs! The time waiting was past, dog walking, people watching, eating, drinking, and chatting to Ellis who felt sorry for us (I think) and came to see us after his checkpoint had closed.

The Blether!! Only one incident was reported on the event from Ellis at CP1 who had to give a young lady a lift to retrieve her steed after they slid on a bend, leaving the rider with minor grazing and the horse a bit lame. Both rider and horse where soon reunited and continued to the end.
After the final riders had been safely seen off to the last leg back to the venue, we all returned to control for our usual end of event blether.
