The 2011 Crossmichael Triathlon
Sunday the 4th of september saw the revival of the Crossmichael Triathlon after an absence of fourteen years, the event was started in 1989 by Jim McLelland and his wife Diane licensees of the Thistle Inn in Crossmichael to raise money for local charities.
The Triathlon was abandoned in 1997 after the death of Jims wife Diane but he decided to revive it this year. The event was well attended with seventy one competitors plus several hundred spectators. The course was a one mile swim across Loch Ken, a twentyseven mile cycle ride around the New Galloway and Lauriston area finishing with a seven mile run around the Crossmichael and Clarebrand area. Dumfries and Galloway RAYNET were asked to provide safety communications.
